11:18 AM
We just hit 10,000 ft. which means all electronic devices can be used. And I'll take advantage of this opportunity to write a bit. I spent the last three nights in downtown Los Angeles. Staying at the SHERATON on 7th and Hope. My priceline deal got us $60/night while other friends paid $120/night. What fools they are. They don't know the power of frugality. My hotel was better and half the price.

So, I married Matt Skiba last night. Approximately 6:59 PM I said "By the power VESTED in me... I now pronounce you Husband and Wife". I think I did a good job. I'm getting better and better at this wedding stuff. I should have made business cards and passed them about. Perhaps more and more people will start asking me to marry them. Hmmmm... Perhaps not.

Well, I got into Los Angeles at 11:20 PM. My friend Chris Candy was nice enough to pick me up as we entered the same vehicle that we had traveled in all summer. DEJAVU!! We headed over to Hollywood to visit the band ANTI FLAG. They were recording their new record in a fancy shmancy studio. Tom Morello was there hanging out. But that fucker didn't even remember my name. He just stood up and said "HEY!! Good to see you again". Since I have no shame, I said "You don't even remember my name". And he said "I'm sorry".

We went to some friggin diner called SWINGERS that's open late. There were a lot of people who looked like they were in bands eating there. Lots of silly tatoos and black t-shirts. REMINDER-Don't ever where a black T-shirt again!! Better yet, don't ever wear a T-shirt again.

I ordered VEGAN nachos at $9.50. I thought it would be huge, but it wasn't. Just a small plate that one would make at home for a snack. But when the bill came, Mr. AUDIO AGAINST THE MACHINE paid for everyone. Oh...How nice of him. I played it up and said "Are you sure? that's so nice of you", while trying to give him money, That fucker doesn't even know my name.

Then the singer for AFI came in and MR. RAGE AGAINST THE SLAVE stood up and said "DAVEY". "HEY DAVEY". And he came over looking scarier than ever. You see, this was all very ironic to me. Because he dated Matt Skiba's fiance for years. And he hates Matt because he is with her and suddently within hours of me arriving to LA to marry Matt and Monica was this arch enemy of MR. SKIBA and I was thinking are you kidding me? And why is MR. TOM MORELLO yelling so loudly in a public restaurant. But he did pay for the food, so all is good.

Anyways, a late night seemed to be getting later as I checked in to my hotel room at nearly 3 AM. A bed that doubles the size of my own awaited me as a much needed slumber took over. ZZZZZZZZZZ...

11:30 AM on Saturday the wedding rehearsal began. By the luck of priceline, my downtown hotel landed me two blocks from the wedding location. We went through the steps and the rehearsal was over. A few pictures and then off for brunch at the STANDARD hotel. Eggs, Tofu Scramble, Veggie Patties, Smoked Salmon, Home Fries, fruit, bagels, pastries, fresh juices, capers, mimosas, and yes.. I had three plates. More than anyone there. We checked out the hotel while I wondered aloud how much this wedding was costing?? My guestimate is over $50,000. Just the brunch alone had to be nearly $700.

I got a call from Ted Steuvens. He plays in a band called MAYDAY and he heard I was in LA so he called me up to tell me he was playing in town. After a mapquest search, it turns out that the venue called the ECHO was only 3.3 miles away, so my best friend MN and I walked there. My knee, still recovering from injury kept locking up, but I made it all the way there. The hope that I would be on the guest list was thwarted with a "Sorry, you're name is not on the list". DOH!! Oh well, I paid the $7 to enter and looked for my friends. It was an early show. 6:30 start time. I like early. It's nice. We took off after they played. My knee felt like it was gonna fall off, so we decided to take the bus, but couldn't figure out which one went downtown, so I toughed it out and made it back to the hotel.
Starving, nothing was open. We found a BURGER KING that seemed quite pricey for fast food and got a veggie burger. A good little appetizer I guess, but I was still hungry and ended up ordering a delivery of pad thai, vegetable curry, and spring rolls. $22 with tip, this meal was GHETTO. The spring rolls were huge, like burritos, but they tasted like CA CA. Do you know CA CA?

And the curry was like a sweet soup of COCONUT MILK. I still managed to eat a lot of it, but the whole time I kept thinking, why am I eating this?? I stayed up late watching HBO movies. BRUCE ALMIGHTY took me into the early morning. I ended up sleeping til' almost noon.

A quick trip to the gym and then devoted time to practice for the wedding up til' 4 PM. Off to the HILTON CHECKERS HOTEL where I met up with the wedding party for pictures. A nervousness hit me as the time drew near. Here we go.. To the wedding, we watched the guests flock in and then the moment of truth arrived. Matt and I walked down a staircase and took our places. The heart started to pitter and patter and pitter some more. And then it was done. I did good. It was like playing a show and knowing it was a success. Food kept coming and coming. Appetizers, free drinks, three course meal, cupcakes, and dancing the night away. Even on my bad knee (which is throbbing as I type this) I pretty much danced the entire night. FUN FUN FUN

I'll be at work within the hour. DOH!!
Peace, mike
