5:58 AM

This is west coast time. I woke at 6:30 AM east coast time, took a shuttle to the Hartford Intl. Airport and now Iím headed to Chicago. My arrival time of 9:45 AM will give me nearly 24 hours to enjoy the pleasures of the Chicago experience. FUN! FUN! Jenny Choi is going to pick me up and then weíll get some Chicago style grub.

We stayed in a hotel in Hartford yesterday and fortunately it was right on the way to Connecticut College, so we checked in and was able to relax for a bit before heading off to my next show in New London. Hartford is about an hour away, but the flights were so much cheaper than New London. Thatís why I was staying so far away.

Arriving at the college, we were greeted by a mean security guard. All we did was ask for directions to the building I was playing in. Geeeeeezzzz..... But we got there, so thatís the most important thing. The small campus of less than 2,000 students was immaculate. Perfect landscapes and not a spot of trash to be found. It was almost surreal to the point of insanity how perfectly groomed the grounds looked. I played in a room called the ...?? I canít remember?? ERNST COMMONS comes to mind. Anyways, it was all dressed up with seats, a podium, projector screen, PA, but nobody was there. I had forgotten to write down the phone number of my contact, so I just started setting up my stuff.

Luckily for me, they called me and knowing I had arrived came to meet me. A girl named Teresa had been the one I had been in contact with. She was very petite, cute, and reminded me of my friend Roxanne when she was in high school.

I decided to bypass using the PA system. Iím becoming more and more comfortable singing without a mic.. At around 4:10 PM I started my set and probably talked as much as I played music. At 5 PM I was done. This my friends is a dream situation. If I could only play colleges and be done by 5 PM every time, Iíd die a happy man. The club scene friggin sucks. I hate smoke, I hate bars, I hate waiting til 11 PM to have to play a show. It all drives me friggin crazy.

To top it all off, we got to eat for free in the student dining hall. My stomach was still feeling a bit queasy.(Spelling?) But since it was free and their was an abundance of grub, I went for it. Starting off with sauteed vegetables, a baked potato, and some catfish. Then a salad with tofu, spinach, cucumbers, peppers, and an oil/vinegar dressing. I should have stopped there, but since it was free I went for round 2. A bowl of raviolli and some mashed yams. Then dessert, which consisted of a nestle cookie pie and three scoops of mint chocolate ice cream.

It was only 5:40 PM when we left the campus. I was back in my hotel at 6:45 PM. I washed my clothes in the bathtub and then dried it in the dryer. Saving me $1.25. Iím wearing clean clothes as I type this and Iím feeling pretty good about myself.
Be well.
Peace, mike
