ahhh.... This Friday I go into the Santa Clara Kaiser hospital for a colonoscopy. Do you know what that is? Well, it's no fun, but something that probably saved my life 10 years ago.

Let's rewind back to 2001. I had been living in Japan for 3 months and when I returned back to the states I had a lot of comments from folks saying I had lost a lot of weight. But I hadn't been exercising and I was eating tons of crap while I was over there, so I was concerned and went in to see a doctor. He did some tests and scheduled a colonoscopy for me.

I had gotten a call from Kaiser that said all my tests were ok and that there was no need to do the colonoscopy. But for some reason I said I still wanted to do it. And so after drinking sodium phosphate and peeing out of my butt for 24 hrs, I had the procedure done and to the doctors surprise they found a polyp. A polyp which had cancer cells and would have developed into full blown colon cancer.

Kind of crazy to think about, but yeah I now have a colonoscopy every 5 years. It's still no fun peeing out the butt in preparation for this fun procedure, but it's better than death. :)
