Happy Friday. For many people, this is the saviour of a long and dreaded work week. Fortunately I cannot relate. Somehow I'm still managing to survive in the music business. A business that has been ripped to shreds the past 5 years.

From the biggest of the big to the smallest of the small, everyone has been affected to some degree. I've had to cut costs on everything. I've changed my label model and feel pretty good about the future and how I can survive for the next 10 years.

I'm actually going on 15 years as a record label and 21 years in the music business. That's a long time for any job, but especially for a business that is filled with so much corruption. I don't even know what I'm doing to be honest.

I find it funny when people call asking for the marketing department and I respond "that would be me I guess, cause I'm the only one who works here". And then they'll go on a long rant on how their new social media product will give us this % of sales vs. this % of hits and this % of fans and I say "Excuse me.. I'm really not interested". And I hang up.

and so that is my new thing. I used to be courteous and listen through, but now I hang up. And so the lesson going into this weekend is just hang up.
peace, mike park
